The Future of Fuel Delivery
Discover what’s in store for the fuel delivery industry.

From geopolitical movements to supply chain disruptions, the propane and heating oil industries are changing. But shake-ups like the “electrify everything” movement won’t determine the longevity of the fuel delivery industry—that responsibility rests on the shoulders of today’s fuel dealers.
In the inaugural episode of “Energy Matters,” Join Energy Product Marketer Farid Widjaya interviews Mark Stillman of Energy Engine and Silverline about how the industry is changing and how fuel dealers can maintain the status quo to focus on what matters most—providing exceptional service to loyal customers.
Are Heating Oil and Propane Use Shrinking?
It’s undeniable that the push for green, renewable energy has shifted the public perspective on heating oil. And, with reduced refining capacity, supply chain disruptions, and price instability, heating oil has taken a hit.
However, the propane market has not received nearly as much flack; the United States has a strong domestic supply of propane, and it is perceived as a cleaner alternative to heating oil and natural gas. Because propane is more insulated from global disruption and federal regulation, it remains a strong contender in the energy space. In fact, according to Stillman, propane is set to grow “five to eight percent a year between now and 2027.”
How Can Fuel Dealers Stay Relevant?
It’s not all doom and gloom for the propane industry—despite chaos along the supply chain and a reshuffling of regulations, fuel dealers are better equipped than ever to weather these challenges. Instead of worrying about factors beyond their control, Mark Stillman recommends that fuel dealers prioritize customer retention and experience.
As electrification attempts to woo propane customers away from propane and heating oil, it’s up to fuel dealers to enhance technology, improve service, and adapt to shifting customer demands. The goal is twofold: to remain competitive amidst electrification and to create an industry-wide culture that prioritizes customer loyalty and satisfaction.
